Michael B. Gerrard teaches courses on environmental law, climate change law, and energy regulation. He is director of Columbia Law School’s Sabin Center for Climate Change Law and also chairs the faculty of Columbia University’s Earth Institute, which blends research in the physical and social sciences, education, and practical solutions to help guide the world onto a path toward sustainability.
At the Sabin Center, Gerrard oversees a variety of research projects, including the Climate Deregulation Tracker; searchable online compilations of U.S. and non-U.S. climate change litigation; summaries of climate change policies around the world; and model legislation and protocols for environmental review, green building, renewable energy, and climate risk and resiliency laws. In 2017, the center received the Distinguished Achievement in Environmental Law and Policy Award from the American Bar Association.
