Kathy Surace-Smith and Brad Smith

Kathy Surace-Smith ’84 and Brad Smith ’84 pledged $1.25 million to support the Law School’s Human Rights Clinic, which prepares students for careers in social justice advocacy worldwide. As students, Brad and Kathy volunteered at the Immigration Law Clinic, representing clients facing deportation. Brad is president and chief legal officer at Microsoft, and Kathy is vice president and general counsel at NanoString Technologies.

Law school is where you learn to think like a lawyer, but clinical education teaches you to act like a lawyer.
